Victoria BC’s indie-rock band Wise Child pulls together a dreamy combination of technical, melodic and honest music that reaches deep. With a touch of shoegaze, surf and pop nostalgia, chiming guitar hooks overlie soaring, washed-out rhythm guitar. Driving drums, bass, and underlying ambient synth textures bring depth to their songs. Jaya Bremer’s lush alto voice evokes a sense of melancholy, a hint of bitterness, something that toes the line between power and vulnerability.
The band recently released their first full length album Idle Hands on March 29th, 2019, which was recorded with producer Colin Stewart (The New Pornographers, Yukon Blonde, Black Mountain) at The Hive studio on Vancouver Island, which has been charting on college radio across Canada, was added to prominent Spotify Playlists “Indie Allstars” and “Fresh Finds” and received a lot of blog love. Idle Hands is is full of surfy shoegazey feels.
Idle Hands follows Wise Child’s debut EP Lucky You recorded at The Noise Floor Studio on Gabriola Island.
Wise Child was named Vancouver Island’s top 10 for CBC Searchlight 2017, and and Victoria’s top bands on the rise by Do250. They have played Victoria festivals Song & Surf, Fernfest and Phillips Backyard Weekender and shared the stage with a myriad of western North American acts Carseat Headrest, Morning Show, 36?, Windego, Bedside, and Fortune Killers.
Wise Child’s music will resonate with lovers of Feist, Land of Talk, Alvvays, and the War on Drugs.
